Since the 1990’s, there have been a very few number of SUVs that have been as popular as the Chevrolet Tahoe. With it’s spacious interior, powerful V8 engine, and all of it’s convenient features, it’s not too difficult to see why the Chevrolet Tahoe is such a popular vehicle.
After it’s initial release, the Tahoe underwent a small amount of competition and easily became the most popular vehicle on the market. In addition, the Tahoe offered more maneuverability and was less bulky than the Chevrolet Suburban, the SUV of choice at this time. It’s popularity can be accredited to not only providing excellent off-roading capability to it’s user, but also allow the safety and comfort for an entire family.
Chevrolet Tahoe Current Generation 2007 - Present
The Tahoe was redesigned in 2007 to mark the beginning of third generation. Improvements in areas like interior design and material use create a highly-improved sense of ride-quality. Depending on what options you choose, anywhere from 6 to 9 passengers can be seated comfortably and safely during operation.
For current generation Tahoe models, they are offered in three types of trims: the LS, LT, and LTZ. The LS model comes pre-equipped with all the essentials that one would want in an SUV. The only difference between the LS and the LT-LTZ models is that the LT and LTZ models include luxury features. Such features may include a navigational system, and even rear entertainment systems in most Tahoe models. Other options include full-length side curtain airbags, which are offered standard after 2008 models. Options for powertrain include the choice between two V8 type engines, and a 2 or 4-wheel drive.
Chevy 2000 - 2006 Model Years
Some of the most popular Tahoes were produced in the 2000-2006 model years. Chevrolet has produced and sold more Tahoes from this timeframe, and has shown to be the best offered SUV on the market at the time.
More About The Second Generation
The second generation Tahoe was given a slightly smaller design, and was still capable of seating up to nine. These model years offered two types of V8 engines: a 4.8 Liter 285 Horsepower, or a 5.3 Liter 295 Horsepower engine. In addition to the two types of engines, the buyer also had the choice of either 2 or 4-wheel drive.
For a majority of the Tahoe’s history, it has been offered in the LS, Z71, or LT trim. These targeted specific properties and helped to improve performance for the vehicle in many ways. The Z71 for instance, was initially designed to improve off-road performance.
Setbacks and Unexpected Flaws
Setbacks for second generation Tahoe can be found in the interior. Although these vehicles came with impressive power and performance, the cheap build of the interior is a notable flaw for these model year Tahoes. For those who are interested in the purchase of a Tahoe should consider the “Optional Stability Control” system, which increases handling control and provides greater safety during vehicle operation.
1995 - 1999 Model Years
These model years are very similar to todays model Tahoes, but are practically toned-down versions of it. This “first generation” offered seating for up to 6, spacious storage space, and was also capable of fitting in most standard-size garages. These model years, however, are the only generation of Tahoes that included optional 2 or 4-door models. With the 2-door version was a 180 horsepower V8 Turbo-Diesel, which was a cost-effective alternative over the standard 4-door 255 Horsepower 5.7 Liter V8.
