Chevrolet Tahoe Gas Efficiency

The Chevrolet Tahoe, which was first introduced in the mid 90’s has lived up to being a typical American SUV. Its gas mileage though has never been something to be impressed with. This has been changed in 2008 by the Hybrid which offers an impressive improvement in gas mileage ratings over the standard models, which can easily be around 50% of an increase. And this hasn’t been accomplished by just introducing a few minor tweaks in the vehicle.

Chevrolet dropped the suspension in the hybrid version, gave an aerodynamic design to the hood and front of the hybrid Tahoe, and reduced the fuel consumption in many components to cut down the work done by the two-mode hybrid system. The gas mileage of the Chevrolet Tahoe hybrid is 21 city / 22 highway in the 2-wheel drive model, and 20 city / 20 highway for the 4-wheel drive model.

Twenty miles for every gallon, in the city, is a very positive start for the Hybrid but there’s still a lot more to do to make it extremely fuel-efficient. A similar increase in highway mileage would be quite a boon. Increase in effort to lighten the SUV and replacing the 6-liter V-8 engine with a more economical diesel engine are the next probable steps after the success of the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe.
